Discussing his early childhood and then his time at Trinity, Mr. Kerr shares both positive and negative encounters between himself and other students due to his sexual orientation. He expands on his involvement with on and off-campus activism for the LGBTQ+ community, explaining his leadership role in the “Gay and Lesbian Support Group” at Trinity. This interview also explores the HIV/AIDS crisis of the 1980s, tackling conversations about death, loss, and fear for those identifying as LGBTQ+. Analyzing socio-political norms and expectations of the 1980s, this conversation briefly mentions other national support groups, organizations, and prominent LGBTQ+ leaders who faced rampant homophobia. David Kerr not only talks about his personal experiences with death, but also sheds light on the catalyst this epidemic was for queer voices, activism, and acceptance. Finishing off his story, Mr. Kerr also converses about his life now as an openly gay man with a husband and two kids living in California, offering advice to younger queer generations finding their identity.\u003c/p\u003e (Summary)"]}},{"label":{"en":["Format"]},"value":{"en":["MP3"]}},{"label":{"en":["Subject"]},"value":{"en":["HIV/AIDS","Activism","Homophobia","Conservatism","Student organizations","Trinity University (Local Term)","San Antonio (Tex.)
